What information is needed for a rate quote?

We have never shipped to/from a foreign country before, what is the first step?

  • Import and export transactions are our specialty and we are prepared to guide you every step of the way. Shipping to and from foreign countries can be intimidating and overwhelming. There are many matters to consider such as the best method to ship, customs clearance and destination requirements, timing and cost; all questions businesses must ask when preparing to import or export.

Can you ship personal effects overseas?

  • Yes, we can assist in shipping personal items overseas. Worldwide Cargo specializes in handling larger shipments (palletized or full-container load). If it is a relatively small shipment, you may be better served using packaging express services such as FedEx, DHL or UPS. If you are moving your entire household domestically, we may recommend calling an experienced moving company. Please contact us via email or phone and we will be happy to assist you.
  • We do not handle personal automobiles but will provide proper referrals.

Can you ship valuable and fragile items overseas?

  • Yes. Shipping extremely valuable and breakable items overseas is possible if the item is crated and packaged properly. We are more than happy to refer you to a professional crating and packaging service. Once your shipment is properly packed by a professional, we would be happy to facilitate the shipping. How long does it take to get a quote?

  • In many cases we can have a quote prepared back to you in just an hour or two. Particularly large, containerized, or difficult shipments it may take a few days. Shipments requiring destination handling, customs clearance, and/or delivery will require at least 24 hours to get an accurate price quote.

How accurate are your quotes?

  • We strive to obtain as accurate a quote as possible. We have found that many of our competitors will initially quote low in order to win the business, but then bill later for “unexpected” or “hidden” charges. This is not how we do business. We feel it is vital that we give our customers complete and accurate information in advance to assist them in making their decisions. What documents are needed to clear a shipment through customs?

  1. Bill of Lading or Airway Bill
  2. Commercial Invoice (listing Buyer, Seller, & commodity description)
  3. Certificate of Origin (in some cases)
  4. Power of Attorney (we provide this form for your signature)

Why do I need a freight forwarder?

  • International shipping is different than domestic shipping. The logistics, regulatory, and commercial aspects of international shipping can be daunting due to the differences in rules and regulations from country to country. In addition to government regulations and foreign customs requirements, we are dealing with carriers (land, sea and air) from all over the world. If a shipment’s documentation is not correct, your shipment could be subject to costly delays.
